Growing up in Sacramento, I learned to fish when my parents took trips to the Sacramento Delta or up to the Sierras where we camped every summer. I still have a vivid memory of my first Bluegill and watching my bobber disappear under the water like magic, and even more so my first mountain trout caught on a salmon egg in a small mountain creek.
I also remember the day I decided I needed to try fly fishing. I was sitting on a log that spanned the river with my buddy and we'd been trying to catch two large planters all morning throwing lures and bait to no avail. We were frustrated and getting bored. I saw the fly line first, whipping through the trees like lightning around the bend in the river and was mystified. Then a friendly fly fisherman clad in fly fishing regalia approached our log and said hello. We proceeded to disclose our dilemma with the two unreasonable trout. He asked if he could have a go, and with a few flicks of an Adams and a brief tussle he had brought both trout to hand. He gave them to us to take home to the campfire then disappeared downstream. We were awestruck! My dad had an old Fenwick fiberglass rod lying around in the garage and the rest is history.
I've fly fished all over California for the last twenty five years with stints in Oregon, Alaska, Idaho and Montana. I'd like to believe I've learned a thing or two. Having decided that I'd caught enough fish for a lifetime I figured I should share my passion for angling with others and became a guide. This sport, steeped in history and tradition, is very special to me as are the people, rivers and fish that I encounter on my outings. My goal is to share the joy of the outdoors and fly angling with anyone who cares to listen.
I am a trout and steelhead angler seventy five percent of the time, but also enjoy warm and salt water angling when opportunities present themselves. I look forward to enriching your angling experience in Northern California and beyond.
